The name Jesus means 'God saves'. Jesus came down from heaven in the form of a mortal child to dwell among the people. He made the ultimate sacrifice when he died on the cross, taking our sins upon himself, by dying the death of a criminal. But He was resurrected on the 3rd day after his death. Because Jesus was victorious over sin and death, those who believe in Him are completely cleansed from their sins and when they die, will live with Jesus in heaven forever. How do we know that all this is true?

This is because, firstly, the Bible is the Word of God. The Word of God is truth. If God was not all truthful, how could we believe Him? We wouldn't be able to call Him God. The scientific, tactile confirmation that God's Word is the truth is the fact that Jesus has been acknowledged historically. He really existed. And all that he did, his life, was recorded in the Bible.

I know that Jesus is God because he said so. In Matthew 26: 62-64, Jesus was being tried by the high priest to determine if he was guilty of any sin. This was before they crucified Jesus. This is what happened: "Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God. "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. ..."

Some may think that Jesus was deluded, that he was mentally unstable. But if he was, how was he able to speak to crowds an a coherent manner? People may indulge in a lunatic, they may go to see one speak for entertainment's sake, but the Bible tells us of those people who went over and over again to listen to Jesus to speak, of people whose lives were changed, of the miracles Jesus did. The Bible also tells of how Jesus' followers went far and wide to spread the good news of Jesus' salvation, depite facing death, persecution and suffering. No one in their right mind would do such a thing for a man they believed to be a lunatic.

Others may say that Jesus was just a really clever liar who managed to persuade people that he was God. But a man of such intellect, when faced with the prospect of dying on a cross, would certainly admit that he had been lying. No one would die for a lie. Would you give your life for what you knew was most certainly false?

If Jesus was neither mad nor a liar, he must have been telling the truth. The passage above talks about how Jesus " fulfilled what was said through the prophets". In fact, Jesus fulfilled all 333 prophecies that were made about him thousand of years before he was born-a statistically improbable event!

The implications of all that has been said are enormous. This means that Jesus is truly,

undeniably God.

"Either Jesus was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But don’t make up any patronizing nonsense about His being just a great human teacher."
